Psychohistorical Prediction

Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels featured a character, Heri Seldon, who was a prophet of psychohistory. Seldon had figured out the mathematical formula for societal upheavals and passed them on to his followers.

In the Seldon tradition then, I am going to make a prediction that will come true 38.3 years from today. [Eric, please keep this archived until then.]

To wit: The current movement for gay inclusion will result in a period of 'revision' similar to what feminism is going through today.

A certain percentage of those who have become gay, experimented with following a gay lifestyle or spent years grazing both sides of the fence will produce a counter-movement whose slogan could very well be, "What was I thinking?"

Before you get ready to flame, consider first what a new social movement has to do to gain acceptance. They have to argue for the inherent justice of their rights, of course, and the logic of allowing people to 'be who they are,' but most importantly, they must promote their agenda through political action, social awareness and most important of all, through cultural propaganda.

In short, they have to oversell reluctant prospects.

Think about the feminist movement. Its leaders and adherents did all these things. Besides the scientific breakthrough, The Pill, that really fueled the recent period of women's explosion of self-reliance, the repeated message to women through the last decades was — 'You don't need a man to be a woman,' 'Sisters are doing it for themselves,' and 'Woman, I am strong.'

Now if you are over the age of 27, there are women known to you who are plenty resentful that they bought all this advertising without thinking for themselves.

That's not to say the bulk of women's advances are bad. But some of them were. There are thousands of women who are unmarried and childless or single mothers or just such total raving bitches that they've skewed their personal experiences to essentially exclude men.

The counter-feminist movement in a nutshell is saying ,'Hey, I want to be a woman — and have a career, and be married and have kids.'

So will go the gay movement. Many, many will come to the realization that they were sold a bill of goods. Another one of that party's slogans might be, 'It's okay to be straight!'
