Carmen from the block

Jennifer Lopez is being sued over her intended remake of Carmen by the man who claims to have had the idea of casting her in it.

Jennifer Lopez is being sued for $3 million by a director who claims she stole his idea for a big-screen adaptation of the opera Carmen.Adam Shankman, who made his directing debut on Lopez's 2001 hit The Wedding Planner, claims he told the multihyphenate (actress, pop star, producer, fashion designer, restaurant owner, perfume purveyor, etc.) about his idea to cast her in the romantic tragedy.
Lopez allegedly took a shine to the idea and passed it off as her own in a pitch meeting with Universal Pictures, cutting Shankman out of the deal, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court May 2. The amount of damages was unspecified, but we're sure Shankman's figure will have plenty of zeros.
A rep for the Latina diva dismissed the allegations, saying, "We have not seen the complaint, but I'm surprised that anyone would have the audacity to claim intellectual domain over a property as well known as Carmen."

Bizarrely, there's another case like this also doing the rounds at the moment. Some character called Vincent D'Onofrio (no relation to the actor) has been suing Madonna and Guy Ritchie over Swept Away, claiming he originally had the idea of remaking that about six or seven years ago. Much like the Lopez case, he says he proposed the idea to Madonna, who then eventually decided to do it without him. Frankly, though, given the bomb that it turned out to be, wouldn't you rather dissociate yourself from it if you could?

Me too. Ideas deserve credit, but not all of them. Now all he'll be known for is being a complete idiot.

Before he had a good relationship - I'm assuming with a bankable A1++ star, who probably returned his calls.

Now? He's likely dirt, in her mind.
