Stupidity still knows no bounds

There's been some talk about plagiarism in certain corners of the blogosphere recently, but for sheer academic malpractice, it's hard to beat this:
A VICTORIAN tutor who sat two university exams for computer science students, failing one of them, was given an 18-month good behaviour bond today.
In the Melbourne Magistrates Court, Chih Chern Chung, 33, of North Melbourne, was also ordered to pay $750 to the court fund after pleading guilty to two counts of making a false document.
The court heard Chung, who is now completing a PhD in Information Technology at Monash University, sat the two RMIT exams in the first week of November 2000. [...]
Chung, who graduated in computer science from RMIT in 1999, had had a glowing academic career but has not worked as a tutor since the incident, the court heard.
I should bloody hope he hasn't. Frankly, after an act of academic fraud like that, I'll be damned if I can work out how he still has an academic career; if he didn't bawl those students out of his office and have them reported when they asked him to do the work in the first place, he shouldn't be in his position. As for the students, the one whose exam he failed has gone back to Hong Kong, the other is being allowed to continue his studies after sitting his exam himself.

thing is, they tend to be more concerned with figures than facts. It may only be two students, but think of how often this might happen, and if they were to actually properly punish all those involved, it wouldn't look good...
