Scorsese on Dylan
Published May 21, 2003
Director Martin Scorsese will have access to Bob Dylan for the filming of a BBC documentary looking at the iconic singer's cultural and political influence. The programme will feature the first television interview with the reclusive singer/songwriter since 1985, and will include him reflecting on his early days - a time still shrouded in mystery. The documentary will follow Dylan's career through the early 60s, when hits such as 'Blowin' in the Wind' and 'The Times They Are A-Changin' made the young folk singer an icon. Scorsese admits that he has always been a fan. Dylan appeared in Scorsese's 1978 documentary, 'The Last Waltz', a recording of The Band's last ever gig where he sang a few songs with his former backing band.
The programme will debut on BBC2's Arena strand and on a US Public Broadcast Service station, Thirteen/WNET in New York.
