Pete Townshend's birthday

Pete Townshend was born May 19, 1945. Happy #58!!

I don't know that I have any great new insights to offer on the old man, but Pete Townshend is rock ruling and rules rock. As a songwriter he excelled most of all. Also as a guitar player, as an arranger, as a restless spirit and all around rocking daddy, he's as good as this music gets.

Besides the handful of commonly touted masterworks [Tommy, Quadrophenia, Who's Next], might I put in a suggestion that you look further into a couple of my other Who favorites, The Who Sell Out (where you can find out "what makes a man a man" Answer: a "Tattoo" of course) and Who by Numbers.

Some of the solo albums start getting thin, but you can hardly go wrong buying a Who album.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and anarchy running amok and such. Somebody oughta call the cops to report his out of control freedom of conscience. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.

Let's get this outta the way:Pete is a fucking asshole. But he still brings me to tears at times because he is a real tortured artist, and real artist who suffer don;t make great celebritites. (that fucker has earned every penny he ever made and this last year he earned a few more lines and gray hairs!) I DO hope this produces a post-menopausal Quadrophenia and doesn't send him to the nuthouse. They don't make Rock Stars like Pete anymore - they just commit them.
Happy Birthday you old Bastard!
And release another solo disc soon.
Pete's pissed off so many Who fans yet somehow manages to redeem himself musically. He needs to TAKE ADVICE (see Music Only version of Psychoderelict) and just release some real rock.
end of Rant.

I don't know what Pete has done that is especially "assholish". I've not heard of him being much violent, other than the occasional fisticuffs with Daltrey. That's a brother thing, though. A bit of a self-pitying drunk in his day, but I haven't seen much particularly bad offense from him ever.

"I don't know what Pete has done that is especially "assholish".

There is a whole catalouge of asshole-ish behavior from townshend, but to be fair most of it happened is the 60's, when was drunk.Apparently, he was always drunk. One of the more stupid comments he's made was during an interview when he claimed that "Rickenbacher" guitars are german. Not a big deal i guess, but kind of like Mario Andretti talking about Japanese Ferrari's; Stupid in the George W. Bush way.
