<description>I had never really listened to Broadway tunes in any significant manner before reading Rimler.  I would have recognized maybe a couple dozen songs.  I would have recognized &quot;My Funny Valentine&quot; or &quot;My Favorite Things&quot; and liked them well enough, but I had no idea how to listen to them.  I would not have purposely watched a musical.

I would not consider myself any big authority on Broadway now.  It&#039;s kind of like a second language, but Rimler&#039;s book was definitely a window onto that world.

<description>al, did you like broadway tunes before reading this book?

this has always been a little mysterious to me: as much as i love music i&#039;ve always hated musicals. don&#039;t know why. 

i&#039;ll have to check out this book though.
