Brian axe "Why don't we choose more often to do good?"

That question could be the start of an interesting discussion of some length. Some times it comes from frailties, greed and anger. But sometimes it's hard to determine what would be the good and right thing to do.

God also "allowed" his own son to be crucified. That should be a clear sign that we do not have a God that intervenes in our world like a puppeteer. If that were true, man would not be free (would not have free will). As it is, we have free will, and many of the messes (like wars) that befall us are the result of our own choices. The question is: Why don't we choose more often to do good? It really is our choice.

Cid Martins- Thanks for visiting, and thanks for taking time to comment. However, your little comment proves absolutely nothing except your own arrogance. Pretty much all you did was to explain why you would consider it unlikely that God would send signs in this manner. That's not proof or even evidence in the direction of proof.

But then again, maybe He did. The same point as repeatedly made in this multi-year long thread: the Lord works in mysterious ways. Maybe He has purposes that you or I simply couldn't fathom.

I find it more likely to believe that the Fatima miracles were some kind of natural phenomenon that don't need ghosts to explain it. But there were a lot more than three girls seeing something, repeatedly.

Hi everyone. I just stumbled upon this site. I am Portuguese and I can assure you that the supposedly miracle of Fátima is a fake. Very easily I can discredit everything said and written about it up until now.
First, why should a superior entity, spirit, essence, soul (whatever you want to call it) come down to our planet, appear to 3 kids in a place never heard of in the rest of the world and tell them 3 secrets? If it is a superior being, why come down here, tell something to 3 little children and then not allow them to reveal the secrets? What´s the point then? If it isn't to help humanity, why all this fuss? Come on...get serious... what... was she bored in 'heaven' or something? And what about the revelation of the so called 3 secrets of Fátima only after the respective events happened? I can also do that! By December 2008 I will reveal to all of you who 'will' win the elections for president of the USA!! After everything is over and everyone knows!!
It was just a way for the catholic church to get more people into the religion and thus control them....
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!

Miss Anna- Thanks for reading and responding, but your comments aren't particularly evidence against the Fatima miracle. The sun moving unusually in the sky would be problematic certainly, but God could whip out miracles if he wanted to.

Your bigger point, however, was not against the supposed Fatima visitation, but against the whole idea of the existence of God. This argument is understandable from an emotional point of view, but absolutely invalid as a logical or theological argument.

Basically, you seem to be arguing that there's no God, because no God could allow massive suffering and carnage like a world war. Why wouldn't he? God's ways would not be ours. The Lord works in mysterious ways, as the saying goes. Perhaps He has reasons well beyond our human comprehension to understand.

Not to put too fine a point on it, it's extremely presumptuous to think you know what God would or should do. If there is a God, it's WAY past my pay grade to know his intentions and motivations.

The sun did not move....if it had done, everyone else in the world would have known about it. and what sort of a God would allow, in that year 1917, millions to die in the horrific conditions of the trenches, in a war that should never have occured. this 'miracle' is pathetic in comparison to the carnage of WW1, which cannot be justified by any of the arguments for the existence of suffering put forward by christians. where was God then?

I'm glad my silly rantings have brought a thought to chew on for you.

For my own small spate of articles you can check this text link if you are interested. Far too many comments for me to link the relevant ones, so any questions, or topics you want to cover in this broad realm, just say so.

Looking forward to the conversations.

Thanks D'oh but no need to be sorry I can't hear...I mean could be worse...I could have lost my sight instead. I can see and that is a true blessing believe me. Once you have lost a crutial sense like hearing....you come to really appreciate things like sight, smell, taste, etc.

It is quite obvious in previous postings that you are well versed, which is why I have come to look forward to them. I printed out the lyrics to Judith, but still need to go find the other one. Once done I will put in my proverbial two cents.

ToroL - I'm more than happy to discuss as you like. Fair warning, most would consider me both apostate and heretic, but I am reasonably well versed in certain materials, and consider myself relatively open minded.

Say on, and sorry to hear about your not being able to hear...best Hopes towards you.

welcome back D'oh.....and thanks for the links, however I am deaf, so without subtitles I'm afraid I can't comment on this....for the others you posted I went and found the lyrics for that particular video. I will do that for this as well when I have a bit more time. Hope you hang around for a bit because as I said before I came here originally for the Fatima discussion....Enter Catherine and well .....there were more than a few of us got caught up in all that. But I digress...

Just for you , Torol...and sort of on the topic in a broad sense.

A poet talks about his fundamentalist mother dealing with 25 years of paralysis, but never giving up her faith.

Here in one band, talking about the struggle and it's effects and what he thinks about it.

Then, after getting shit for the first song, in his main band, after she has died, he spends an entire album on the subject...sort of.

But the lyrics of this song rebukes those who would denigrate her and her faith... all this from someone who is blatantly apostate to his mother's faith.

Much of interest to contemplate there, give it a whirl and share your thoughts.

Hi Nancy....ya I wouldn't worry too much about this either....with any luck she really is gone and maybe this thread can go back to people actually discussing the Mirical at Fatima and not listen to her cuss a blue streak and go on about miricals she has made happen (or so she says).

It was seriously getting out of hand and I was appalled at how Al defended her! Then again he could have been just egging her on to keep this nonsense going! Who knows, but I wouldn't worry about her.

nancy, i wouldn't give a second thought to this woman and her threats. revel in them. the lady (if it is a lady) probably can't find her way out of her back yard (should she own a house), much less find out who you are, make all the preparations and travel to wherever you are without completely forgetting what she was doing... the lady can't make it through a fucking sentence without losing the plot.

obviously, everybody is fucking with her in her mind, so she's a wee-bit too busy to really mess with you. and even if she does make it out into the world occasionally, it looks like she must have lucid moments... i think we only see her when her meds run out.

hey mary, cathy, palo alto, my bitch, etc! stop fucking with nancy! (unless it is another nancy, then go ahead, fuck!) if you don't stop, i will call upon the devil to make you go nutso-boom-boom-crazy! see if i don't!

Zing, it doesn't matter if it was me or someone else; even "crazy" threats are serious & not to be tolerated, and that's the policy here, too. I don't know how they'll block her, I'm not that savvy, but they say they can, so....

It seems to me her rants were getting wilder, at least the portions I saw on the Fresh Comments page. The woman needs a padded cell & some industrial strength Prozac, obviously.

also, wouldn't fish bones eventually dissolve after being in your throat for ten years?

Ya I'm a little confused too on the Nancy bashing tirade....she really hasn't been on here much for quite some time, but its obvious Nancy she harbors some real resentment towards you. But again its back to her "all over the place" style we have come to recognize with her.
