First Tom Savini had to remake Night of the Living Dead back in 1990, now they're remaking Dawn of the Dead as well.

The Universal project goes into production next month. Zack Snyder will direct from a script by James Gunn.
'Dead' is about a mysterious plague that causes the newly dead to rise from their graves and begin to eat the living. During the chaos, a core group of remaining humans takes refuge in a shopping mall. These include a young nurse (Polley), the police-uniformed Kenneth (Rhames), a mall employee who works at Best Buy, a gangbanger and his pregnant Russian girlfriend.

There's an IMDB entry for Zack Snyder but there's nothing in it. And this is the entry for the scriptwriter. I don't know which of the two leaves me with less hope.
