A Chip Off the Old Ozz

Jack Osbourne, 17, checks into rehab:

"I got caught up in my new lifestyle and got carried away with drugs and alcohol," Osbourne told People magazine, which reported he entered Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena on April 23. "Once I realized this, I voluntarily checked myself into a detox facility for my own health and well-being."

....Kelly Osbourne, Jack's 18-year-old sister, told Us Weekly magazine that her brother asked family matriarch Sharon Osbourne for help recovering from alcohol and marijuana abuse.

"He sat with Mum and she said, 'We'll get you help, we'll figure it out,'" Kelly Osbourne said. "He's doing very well and we're all very proud of him. He's in really good spirits." [AP]

Jack is kind of a pud, but he's only 17. It would take a superman - which Jack is most assuredly not - to steer clear of the pitfalls of rapid fame, especially in conjunction with the rock 'n' roll family lifestyle. I mean, my God, look at his father, and his mother said she was at the Betty Ford Center when Kelly was an infant.

My only misgiving about the hospital stay is that you don't live your life in a hospital: you have to figure out how to keep it together out in the real world in order to avoid a revolving door pattern. Anyway, good luck Jack - the road ahead is not easy.
