A whole new Chris

New Earth Mud
Chris Robinson
(Wagram)

Most famous for warring with his brother Rich and his drug taking while in the band The Black Crowes, Robinson releases his first solo CD. His recent marriage to Kate Hudson (daughter of Goldie Hawn) and his former band's indefinite hiatus seems to have freed him up creatively. This is by far the best thing Chris has been involved with since BC's debut Shake Your Money Maker. Featuring the talents of Oasis' arranger Paul Stacey on guitar, keyboards & bass and his brother on drums, the band is extremely tight. It is obvious the lack of band (or maybe his brother) tensions have allowed Chris to really stretch his wings and produce the record he always wanted to make. Unlike most BC records, there are no covers on here either, its all original material. From the opening track 'Safe in the Arms of Love' through to the last track 'She's on her Way', its mellow thoughtful soulful rock all the way. The CD contains a track dedicated to his wife called 'Katie Dear', and as well as 'Silver Car' which contains some very Pink Floyd-like guitar (as does ?Kids that Ain't got None?). The first 3000 of this release contain 3 extra live acoustic tracks plus a DVD with a documentary and more live acoustic material. From the lead singer of a band that lost the plot many albums ago, it is good to see such a strong solo release as this. A pleasant surprise from an inconsistent talent.

He was also pretty famous for being 6'4" and about 150 lbs. Wit his marriage to Kate, we can expect to see some particularly LEAN children looking something like spiders.
