MTV Movie Award Picks

Well, now that the Oscars are out of the way, it's time for the real movie award countdown to begin. Yup, the MTV Movie Award nominations have been announced. So here are my picks for who should win the MTV awards.

Best Movie:
Will win: Two Towers
Should win: Two Towers
Dark Horse: 8 Mile

At last years MTV Awards, Fellowship of the Ring picked up the Best Movie win, and I don't see any reason why there won't be a repeat this year. The only contender that I see would be 8 Mile, and even that's kind of a long shot. Two years of losing the Oscar in a row is going to inflame the Rings fans to vote.

Breakthrough Male Performance:
Will win: Eminem, 8 Mile
Should win: Eminem, 8 Mile
Dark horse: Nick Cannon, Drumline

Eminem is a lock for breakthrough male. No question about it. Nick Cannon has a slight chance on pulling off the upset, just because Drumline came out of nowhere to make a lot of money. But these awards are based on votes, and Eminem's gonna get 'em.

Breakthrough Female Performance:
Will win: Nia Vardalos, My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Should win: Nia Vardalos, My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Dark Horse: Jennifer Garner, Daredevil or Beyonce Knowles, Goldmember

Nia Vardalos is the most probable winner here, just because My Big Fat Greek Wedding was so incredibly popular. Still, this is a tough little category--enough that I think that Nia could face a challenge from Jennifer Garner (since she's hot and was in a popular movie) or Beyonce Knowles, who was hysterical in Goldmember and has the hip-hop name recognition.

Best Virtual Performance:
Will win: Gollum, The Two Towers
Should win: Gollum, The Two Towers
Dark horse: Yoda, Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones

Forget Kangaroo Jack and Scooby Doo--this category is a nerd epic battle. Gollum has the Lord of the Rings edge and the better acting performance. But Yoda had that kick ass fight with Christopher Lee. It's a very, very close call, but I think that the box office numbers lean towards a Gollum victory.

Best Comedic Performance:
Will win: Mike Myers, Goldmember
Should win: Cedric the Entertainer, Barbershop
Dark horse: Will Ferrell, Old School or Johnny Knoxville, Jackass

This is another one that's a tough call. But Mike Myers has the edge on this because of the popularity of Austin Powers. But I wouldn't be too shocked to see Will Ferrell or Johnny Knoxville pull off the upset. Cedric the Entertainer, alas, should win, but won't come close.

Best Villain
Will win: Colin Ferrell, Daredevil
Should win: Colin Ferrell, Daredevil
Dark horse: Willem Dafoe, Spider-Man

I think Colin Ferrell's got a lock on this one. Daredevil's still pretty fresh in people's minds, Colin Ferrell is hot right now, and his performance in Daredevil pretty much overshadowed everyone else's. It was a great performance, and I think it'll play to the crowds well. Ferrell all the way.

According to The Digital Bits it'll be August for the 2-disc edition, November for the 4-disc edition, just like last time.
