The Price of Political Ennui

My current thoughts on war:

So they found the rest of the American POWs in a fine state. I'm happy for them and for the families. Still, a corner of my mind wonders if not it would have been better for the US if they had been tortured even a little bit. Now before you condem me no, I don't wish harm on them. What about Pvt Jessica Lynch... wasn't she tortured?

Now, I'm not so sure about. We need to look at the bigger picture.

She was with the same company that the rest of the POW's were. In war, you do of course want to single everyone else out. Still, if they wanted to do more effective torture procedures, it would have been in their best interest to keep everyone, esp. the men with Jessica. Make the men watch Jessica as they abused her. Most men with their archaic thoughts of defending the female (not that is a bad thing, but men have a softer spot for a female being hurt as opposed to another male usually), would more than likely give in a bit to stop the torture. On top of that, what a morale buster would it be to see your "weaker colleague" being tortured?

She was found in a hospital which had a battery by the bed. Well there are a lot of explanations for batteries by a hospital bed. One of which could be in a time of war, you don't know if you power supply is going to be stable or not. Critical medical equipment runs on electricity. What could be used to power a torture device could also be used to power a heart rate monitor, etc... Bloody soldiers uniforms? Well, if you get shot and are involved in a firefight, you might get hurt and if you get hurt, you bleed. Lots of guards around her hospital bed? Well, let me ask you... even if he was mortally wounded, would you leave an Iraqi solider alone in your hospital? Maybe Jessica was left behind because she was in such bad shape. We really don't know what happened there. Only Jessica knows. Already, we know that the media has been very censored and a lot of things staged. Originally, they said Jessica had been shot... Her father says later no, that's not true... Then we don't hear much of what happened at all. Privacy is important but in this war we really need to be clear who the bad guys and just how bad they are.

The WMD might be in Syria. So we might just have to go in there. And if we don't find them there...well, that just means those crafty bastards moved them to...hmm...I know, Iran! And if we don't find them there...hmm...well, we have pretty conclusive secret evidence that shows they are in...um, Saudia Arabia?

And if they move those damn WMDs again, we'll just have to keep looking for 'em.

Oh, and we just found out France was behind 9-11, too. Probably in cahoots with Germany and Russia. Developing...

Well yes, Brian- Syria, Iran and Saudi Arabia are all on the shit list for supporting terrorism- but you forgot North Korea, the new top of the list. We don't necessarily want or need to actually start invading any or all of these countries. But a little carefully meted out intimidation and bullying may absolutely be in order.

Of course, this will be bullying and intimidating wicked criminals who have killed and helped to kill lots of innocent people. It's not like we're Mike Tyson beating up little old ladies just for fun. They need to be reined in so they won't be out killing or facilitating the killing of more innocent people- particularly Americans.

The other alternative would be to try some psychology on their ass. Perhaps a display of presidential empathy. If the president would just listen earnestly, chewing on his lip a little in sympathy, then he could tell them that he feels their pain. They just want somebody to listen to them, then they would stop acting out.

Oh, wait. We tried that approach for eight years. That got us the first WTC bombing, numerous other acts of terror, and climactically 9/11.

We will yet find some nasty stuff in Iraq as well. Patience kiddies, Daddy's working on it.

The France, Germany and Russia stuff is just facetious, though I ain't real happy with any of them right now.

I agree that there's a lot of nation building needing done here at home, but I suspect that Miss Victoria probably and Brian almost certainly would strongly oppose most of the big things that the government could do that would actually significantly build our economy. These would include major tax cuts, massive de-regulation of business, and tort law reform.
