While his career began in traditional media with A&R gigs at Warner Bros. and Bertelsmann Music Groups, the advent of the Internet compelled him to migrate away from artist management duties for bands signed to Geffen, BMG and Cargo Records towards multimedia production for Macromedia and Disney Online.

John is an acknowledged expert in new media convergence and has been widely
quoted in a variety of publications including Forbes, U.S. News & World Report,
The Industry Standard, The New York Times, USA Today, Billboard, Chicago
Tribune, The Village Voice, and Blogcritics.org, among others.

He has also been a moderator or panelist at a variety of conferences including Future of Music Conference, MP3 Summit, South by Southwest Music conference, Webnoize, Digital Hollywood, North by Northwest, California Copyright Conference and the Mobile Entertainment & Gaming Expo - the dude gets around.

John has advised both traditional and new media executives including MP3.com
CEO Michael Robertson and Uber-agent Michael Ovitz. He continues to provide
advice to various luminaries while also tending to a number of influential
online mail list communities he co-founded including the Pho list, Strangelove.cc , and [unwired].

I first met John about ten years ago, when I interviewed him for an article in Alternative Press about the nascent digital revolution and music - man is that a museum piece - and he has only elevated his standing in the field in the interim. I reconnected with him via the amazing Pho list last year.
