A Beethoven Must-Have

Conductor Simon Rattle, who already did a sensational Gustav Mahler recording with the Berliner Philharmoniker, now moved on to Vienna to record all nine Beethoven symphonies with the Wiener Philharmoniker. On five CDs you can purchase from April 8th on this new interpretation of these classical works, which should be in every CD collection - whether it focuses on classical music or not. Who doesn't know the famous „Ode to Joy" that finishes off the Ninth or the powerful beginning of the Fifth Symphony? However, also the other six symphonies are full of memorable melodies.

To have all symphonies in a slim five cd box is the first chance to experience Beethoven's beautiful works in the original versions, which where completed by Bärenreiter only in 2000. The sound is said to be more transparent and free of the former pathos - a fact that makes me curious and gives the CD box a place on my Amazon Wishlist!

Glad to be of service;-) I'd buy this box in an instant myself if I hadn't all the symphonies on LPs...
