Wormbelly "The Guf"
Published April 06, 2003
The Guf, the second release from an independent band called Wormbelly, is an infused rock and roll apocalypse, complete with heavy guitars and harmonies so tight it hurts.
This band, hailing from South Carolina, brings back memories of genres past. Guns and Roses style ballads and Alice In Chains harmonized choruses are both prevalent in this album. Double bass reminiscent of early Metalica and intelligent lyrics and energy some what like the Rolling Stones are also found in this offering. Yes, all of this in one package with superb mastering and mixing—not to mention the hand of legendary producer John Uhrig (The Eagles, The Ramones, etc.)—makes this offering one that is certain to catch the eye of a major label somewhere.
Overall, this disc is so much fun and evokes so much emotion and includes so much talent and thought, it is a must have indie release for fans of newer radio rock and the underground scene alike.
Lyrics- A- (Intelligent and well thought out lyrics add so much to this already superb effort. Next time around, typing the lyrics instead of scribbling them on the insert might bring forth an A+)
Objectionable Content- B (Due to the unreadable lyrics on the insert, I am forced to go by my impeccable hearing and say that 2 cuss words can be found on this album. If my eyesight were as good as my hearing, I might have found more.)
Overall Album-A (This release is excellent. If a major does not snatch these guys up by the end of 2003, it will be a real shame.)
