6 Minute Mile "The Race for Second"
Published April 06, 2003
6 Minute Mile's album, "The Race for Second", is a post-punk blitz into new territory.
Taking the best elements of garage rock, emo and post punk/hardcore, the members in 6 Minute Mile have managed to create a hybrid sound that is almost — dare I say — unique. The fuzzy guitars and vocal distortions are reminiscent of some of Starflyer 59's most recent material, however, the drums, and the undistorted vocals give it a very distinct punk vibe that awakens images of the Ramones and the Dead Kennedy's — and they are a three-piece!
The lyrics on this album are an inward look at relationships and life in general — this is the only non-unique thing about this album. Lyrics on politics or anything besides the punk rock "relationships suck" mantra would have been a welcome commodity.
Overall, 6 Minute Mile's latest offering is a fresh, new sound, offering a shot of creativity into a slowly dying, mind-numbing world of Green Day and Blink 182 clones.
Lyrics- C (Nothing Special)
Objectionable Content- A (Nothing really objectionable contained)
Overall Album- B+ (Different, unique and creative--6 Minute Mile has definetly brought a worthwhile offering to the table with this release.)
