Jewel, who was hanging in the audience on American Idol last night, has a new direction. She swings to an edgy hip-hop beat on her new single "Intuition," which you can check out for free on her website here. She's just "a simple girl, in a high-tech digital world." Word.

I remember catching Jewel performing in coffee shops in San Diego before she signed the big record contract. I don't think the broad music styles that lead to big sales numbers fits her. Not everyone should produce "commercial" music aimed at the masses. She is very talented, but it seems to lose something between the live performance and digital distribution, to me anyway.
