Robbie Williams gives up on US market?
Published March 19, 2003
Robbie Williams will include an anti-war track on the b-side of his next single, out in April. 'Happy Easter (War Is Coming)' is, needless to say, based on the classic Lennon anti-war song. It will appear on the b-side to 'Come Undone' due out on 14 Apr.
Talking to reporters in the US about the situation in the Middle East he
said: "I'm really scared, to tell you the truth. It's a really serious thing
for me. I don't understand it. I'm scared for everyone's future because I
don't know who to trust. This is the first world event I've been grown up
enough to watch and have a point of view about."
Williams, keen to break America proper, might regret the decision to release
an anti-war number as US troops are actually fighting in Iraq. While there
is a strong anti-war movement in the US, George Michael came in for intense
media criticism last year with his anti-Bush/Blair track 'Shoot The Dog',
and more recently the Dixie Chicks had to backtrack on anti-Bush comments
after country stations staged a boycott.
Plus the fact by 14 Apr the war is pretty likely to be over and the fact it
was "illegal, immoral and illogical" will be long forgotten.
from Marty: It seems as if Robbie is more keen to retain his "god-like" status in the UK and Europe, rather than try another attempt to crack the US market. He has failed miserably to get anywhere in the US so far. At least he does not have to worry about being pulled from any radio station since no one in the US is actually playing his stuff.

Show me a bandwagon Williams hasn't jumped on -- he'll be claiming to be two teenage lesbians next....
Just because no radio station in America plays Williams' music does not mean it has no value. Most Americans have horrid taste in music anyways. (Yes, I'm from America.)
Williams's music is too light for American popularity.
Robbie does have fans in the US, unfortunately we are few and far between because of the sheer business approach that American Record companies use. It's all about the bottom line, not the talent. Hence artists of better quality are not promoted or endorsed as other fad performers that are splashy and sensational that can turn a quick buck in the target group of teeny boppers and fad chasers. Regardless, I am quite proud of Rob. His talent goes beyond this generation and paves new roads for perfomers yet to come. Nigel...you should be ashamed for your petty comments that are nothing but vile and spiteful.
In the words of my mother "If you have nothing nice to say...." Ah but we all know how that one ends don't we?

Pity Williams is veering off into idiotarianism; granted, not as egregiously as the Vichy Chicks. He is one of the more enjoyable singers about in what's left of rock.
