The World does Pop; alright.

The label collected cover versions of English pop songs by world music luminaries. The results range from the lame (Voodoo Child by Kidjo), to highly amusing (No Woman, No Cry by Okinawan female trio Nenes) to the brilliant (People get Ready by Lady Smith Black Mambazo with Pheobe Snow). Along the way we get an amusing rendition of In the Air Tonight by Toure Kunda, the odd Walk on the Wild Side by flamenco artist Albert Pia, the absolute butchery of Africa by Tukuler and a pointless version of Oh, What a Night by Yannick. All in all, this is not an essential purchase for either fans of world music or of pop music. It is however something that is worth getting on sale. Probably works best when you are either drunk or stoned, sober this CD does not work so well.

I've been forced to endure this CD at my bookstore. How someone could destroy Toto's best song is beyond me.
