Remember the Alamo

Today is the anniversary of the seige of the Alamo. While reading about it recently, I came across an interesting fact. The day of the battle, the commander, William Travis, asked his 180 men for volunteers to fight in what would surely be a losing battle against a greater Mexican force. All but one man stepped forward to volunteer. Guess that man's nationality:

William Barret Travis drew his sword from his sheath, drew a line in the sand with its tip, and offered his men a final choice. He offered them the chance to escape the fortress before it was too late, with the promise that they would go with his blessing. A single Frenchman took him up on the offer, and Travis was true to his word. With a handshake, Travis bid him safe passage through the enemy lines

Some things never change.
