Lilo and Stitch

Ok, another one up for Best Animated Picture. Lilo and Stitch is a Disney movie that I'd barely heard about. Was this advertised at all? I'm not exactly the target audience, but I usually at least see one ad on teevee for all the cartoons coming out.

Well, regardless, I'm disappointed that this movie didn't make more noise. I liked it quite a bit better than Ice Age. The animation was technically less stunning (but then, Ice Age wasn't exactly Toy Story 2, either), but it had a lot more warmth. The background were especially impressive, very colorful and not too stylized.

The plot was also much more involving than Ice Age, at least for me. I wasn't always sure how it was going to turn out. Ok, yes I was always sure. But I could at least try to convince myself that something might go wrong. The characters were very believable, and I cared about them. Can't say the same for a whole lot of live action films.

Also, this movie had my favorite ex-kid in the hall, Kevin MacDonald, in a pretty big part. I'm not sure why Kevin hasn't made it further while Dave and Scott are enjoying so much success. Maybe it's the white-boy 'fro.

So far, this is my favorite of the animated movies. I don't think it will win, though. Ice Age was much splashier and had bigger stars and a much bigger advertising budget. I believe that Stallion of the Cimarron or whatever is in my mailbox, so I'll add that one to the mix tomorrow.
