On the New Idlewild: God Bless Roddy Womble
Published February 26, 2003
I Am (What I Am Not) - Probably stronger lyrically than melodically. This isn't one of the more memorable tracks on the album. It'll grow on you in time.
Live In a Hiding Place - Hello, REM. (Or at least I think...I'm only 18, REM is a little bit before my time.) I like how stripped down this song is though. It's a nice departure from the rockingness of the last track. Vocal harmonies are also enjoyable.
Out of Routine - Typical Idlewild. Melodic, and lyrically compelling. I like it.
Century after Century - Nice driving beat in the beginning. Again, I feel the need to look up the lyrics and post them on my other blog.
Tell Me Ten Words - Is that a banjo I hear? Interesting.
Stay the Same - Haha. Before the song started, I was just thinking about that Joey McIntyre song, "Stay the Same." But then the guitars started. Funny. A nice major key track to stick at the end of the album.
In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction - I like Idlewild when they go acoustic, it's nice. Even when the drum part starts, it's nice. Even when the rest of the guitars kick in, it's nice. Oh what's this, a monologue? You know, I usually find monologues in songs cheesy, because they just seem to come from nowhere, kinda like when the characters in a musical just break out in song. But this works. Go Idlewild!
A worthy follow-up to 100 Broken Windows, but a tiny part of me wishes Roddy would regress back to the days of "Queen of the Troubled Teens" if only for 15 minutes. All I have to say is...God bless the Scottish.

I suspect you'll hate me for saying this, but we also had The Remote Part here in Australia months ago...
Great review, I agree with pretty much everything you said. Well done

Excellent job in record time! Thanks and welcome.
