Calexico- Feast of Wire (Quarterstick Records)
Published February 20, 2003
One of my favorites off the album, Crumble, is reminiscent of an evening at a martini lounge. Evoking comfortable leather couches and jazz and bossa nova piped through the speakers. Guero Canelo, another contender for my favorite track, has a haunting Spanish sung chorus supporting Burns's electronically altered lead vox.
I had the opportunity to catch a few of these new numbers performed live the last time the band was at the Black Cat, and they translated well and became the rousing, crowd pleasing numbers fans expect at a Calexico show. I am quite excited to be able to catch them again when they appear in NYC and again at the Black Cat in late March. Crack open a Dos Equis, pull out that Cormac McCarthy book you've been meaning to read, and put on Feast Of Wire. No matter how cold and snowy your surroundings, I guarantee you'll be transported to a warmer and more relaxed place.
