Spirit-Filled Hardcore is Not Dead - A Concert Review.
Published February 10, 2003
On Saturday, February 1, kids from all over Northern Indiana trudged through the snow towards a small, hole in the wall known simply as-- The Post. Slowly the small gymnasium in the former post office began to fill with a drastically mixed crowd. Goths, punks, and preps-- it didn't seem to matter. They all gathered with a single purpose--to rock out.
Local band All Against Law warmed the crowd up by belting out some old school punk a la' Officer Negative. The bands politically charged songs got the juices flowing and the first mosh pits started. To end their set the boys did a fairly decent cover of R.E.M.'s "It the End of the World As We Know It."
Next up was the hardcore band Josiah filling in for Cape Renewal who were unable to make it due to sickness. These boys from Warsaw bombarded the crowd with furious doubled bass goodness. In no time the hardcore kids were performing their free-style skills to Josiah's infectious beat. Periodically members of the audience would run up and sing along with the band.
Everyone drew close together as Facedown Records newest band; Symphony in Peril, started their tuning. The tension was thick as the slightly diminished crowd waited with anticipation. In no time, the tension was split by Shawn Jonas's vocals as the band launched into a performance of controlled chaos. Band members were flailing around like puppets under the control of a madman. It was a sight to behold. Throughout their set Jonas raised his arms in praise every chance he got. The crowd grew quiet as Symphony in Peril ended their set with an instrumental as Jonas lay prostrate on the ground with several of the concert-goers, in reverence to God. Unashamed and Focused may be gone, but rest assured, Spirit-filled Hardcore is not yet dead. Symphony in Peril proves it.

For a second, I thought you said "Spit Filled Hardcore," which brings back fond, if sloppy, memories of my youth.
I remember once reading of Joe Strummer arguing with some punks after a show. "Stop spitting on us!" he said.
"But, Joe," they said,"we thought you LIKED to be spit on."
"Well, how would you like it if i spit on YOU?" he said.
