To coincide with Nick Hornby's release of essays on the same topic, The Observer asked 31 people (novelists, journalists, cashiers, etc.) to name a song that changed their life (and why) in 31 Songs That Changed My Life.
For me, that song is "Over The Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" by Guided By Voices, the tune that awed me with its power and lyricism and pushed me into fanboy status.
