I tend to lean toward the simple explanation a friend of mine put forth when listening to the Jackson 5: "Michael's problem is he got laid a whole lot when he was 11, and slipped his moorings."

Klaus Nomi was very odd and started the robotic, herky jerky dance that Mike Myers incorporated into his "Dieter" character on SNL. I have nothing against the living Nomi, who also sang backup for Bowie. It's the dead Nomi I have a problem with.

There was a guy who used to dance to Klaus Nomi at Cargo in Montreal when they played his tunes at the club. He was very annoying.

I also saw Black Flag at the same club, and Greg Ginn shorted out his guitar because it was so hot and his sweat ran over his guitar. But that had nothing to do with Klaus Nomi.
