Cush - Spirituals EP

In the flashy (and sometimes vulgar) world of rock and roll it's good to see bands pull together an album based around a set of self-fulfilling goals. Too often music is pushed out, based solely upon it's marketability to a group of 16-18 year old males.

Cush (with a rotating roster that even Zao would be jealous of) has put out six song EP of classic and modern versions of well-known spirituals. The disc is packed full (well, six songs full...) of songs like Run Mary Run and Nobody Knows The Trouble I See, which are wonderful adaptations of old-time negro spiritual songs. Other songs (We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace and Sign Of The Judgment) show a group effort that combines multiple vocal contributions.

The CD also includes an impressive cover of the worst Prince song ever, I Would Die 4 U. Although I doubt Prince wrote the song as a gesture to God, none the less it fits well with the CD theme.

If you are a big Cush fan, or a enthusiast of old spirituals, this CD should be quite a delight for you.

You can buy this album from Northern Records
