Getting all Geeky about U2

If you click on my stuff you know that I drop in a U2 reference about 8 times out of 10. No matter how tenuous the connection, I can make it somehow relate it to U2.

This is evidence of psychosis.

With that said, I am listening to a ZooTV broadcast from D.C. The year is probably 1991/1992. Thanks to Shoutcast (search for U2 and then click on the geocities site), there is a "station" that broadcasts archived U2 concerts from just about every era.

This whole little post was prompted by the song "Desire," off Rattle and Hum. The song on the album is an upbeat and three cords type song. Live, at least during the ZooTV broadcasts, "Desire" becomes this amazingly angry song that opens the Encore set when Bono was dressed as the Mirror Ball Man.

U2 played "Desire" during the recent Elevation Tour, but it was an acoustic version with just Bono and Edge center stage. And, it sounded as different from the album version as did the version during ZooTV.

All this is to say, it is rare today to hear a band re-interpert a song for a live audience, and I am thankful for the bands who do.

That is all, carry on.

thanks for that link. Yeah watch for the U2 best of 90-00 special to be on VH1 this weekend! I myself love U2. I'm fanatical about them actually, so I enjoy reading anyone's clever U2 ties in their writings
