For the Crabwalk.com November trade, I went waaaayyy back to the very first mix disc I made.
- Whitesnake "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues" - From the second Whitesnake album, Love Hunter, back when they were a great blues rock band, before the glam-rock days of the '80s. This song remains one of my all-time favorite songs. Just a great guitar solo, lyrics and Jon Lord on keyboards. What more could you ask for?
- Frontline Assembly "New Years Day" I downloaded this from Delerium.com back when I first was getting into techno. FLA and the various spinoffs of Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber were my favorites at the time, so I went searching for any tracks I could get my hands on. This is still one of my favorite techno songs. A great beat and very fine vocals.
- Cypress Hill "(Rap) Superstar" - I love to put two versions of the same song on mix discs for some reason. I actually like this one better than it's counterpart. One of the few songs by Cypress Hill that I can take. I can't stand that whiney, nasal rapping.
- Confrontation Camp "We Don't Need You" - Chuck D had put together this band with Kyle "Jason" Ice and Professor Griff. This was the first single, a pro-napster diss on Hillary Rosen. Great song with a message.
- Motley Crue & 2 Live Crew "Crew to Crue" - I had heard this song once when it was first out, but never bothered to get it, since it was on a 2 Live Crew disc, not a Motley Crue one. This is exactly what you would expect when you combine the raunchiest rappers of the time with the "bad boys of rock 'n' roll."
- WWF "Break The Wall Down" - Chris Jericho's first WWF theme song. I loved hearing this song when he came down the ramp and I was on a pretty big WWF kick at the time. The only real reason I liked watching was for the music though. They really know how to get a crowd going with an entrance theme.
- Cypress Hill "(Rock) Superstar" - The other version. While it's good, it just doesn't have the flair of the rap version.
- Motley Crue "Hell On High Heels" - The first single off of New Tatoo. I downloaded this to see what the new Crue disc would sound like. With Randy Castillo on drums, I figured it would have a new sound. It really doesn't and I never was impressed enough to buy the disc or even check it out any further.
- Hiding Place "Road Runner" - Hiding Place was a band at my high school. I own all three of their tapes but I've never been able to locate any of the members to get my hands on the CD's (I didn't have a CD player at the time I bought them), so I recorded them onto my computer and burned them to disc. This is my favorite track from all of them. The guy who wrote this was one of the "funny" types, and this track shows it. I love the "Meep-Meep" in the middle. The quality sucks, but it's a great song.
- WWF "No Chance" - Vince MacMahon's theme. Originally, he used it as a message to Stone Cold Steve Austin, but it stuck. It has such pop that I had to get it on disc. The rest of the disc this is on is extremely forgettable, so it ended up here.
- BT (fet. Tori Amos) "Blue Skies (Robbers Of Antiquity Alien Disco Mix)" - A "b-side" of a CD single, this isn't available anywhere else. It absolutely smokes, it's so hot. Killer song.
- Camp Chaos "Sue All The World" - A parody of "We Are The World," this is for all of the bands who were speaking up for the record companies when they filed suit against Napster. Very funny song. The video is still available, but apparently, the mp3 isn't.
- Boston "To Be A Man" - "It takes more than a tatoo and the right cigarette," so says the linear notes to the landmark Third Stage. This is my favorite Boston song. Every guy has asked himself what it takes to be a "man."
- Megadeth "Insomnia (Rhys Fulber Mix)" - When I heard that Rhys Fulber (FLA, Delerium, Fear Factory) had remixed a Megadeth song, I HAD to have it. This song is from the Japanese EP "Breadline." An intense mix of a great song.
- Great White "Wasted Rock Ranger" - Great White was one of my favorite live bands for a very long time. Do NOT take this seriously. A country-ish take off on the "rock 'n roll" lifestyle.
- Kid Rock "American Bad Ass" - This was a huge hit after The Undertaker started using it. WWF made the decision to stop using it, since Kid Rock was "overexposed." Then they switched him to use Limp Biskit's "Rollin'"??!?!?!?
- Frontline Assembly "Justify My Love" - Remix of the Madonna song. Solid remix, but not as good as "New Years Day."
- Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive" - This wasn't originally on this disc. I ended up reburning it, since I screwed something up and added this song to the disc. How can anyone not like this song?
