Amazon is finally taking pre-orders for Segways with deliveries beginning in March of next year. For a mere five grand (though you only need to deposit $495 now), you can be the first on your block with the coolest toy.

For everyone who pre-orders by December 16, there is a contest for 30 people to get their Segways this year just in time to see how well they'll do in the snow.

Dean Kamen and Jeff Bezos are on Good Morning America today promoting the announcement.

As you probably remember, there was a ton of hype about Kamen's invention when the now long gone Inside.com published a story about a book proposal promising it would change life. A lot of people were underwhelmed when Segway was finally revealed (many had hoped for something more like Stirling engine Kamen showed off on 60 Minutes II last week).
