Generation Gap

I've seen this ad for The Gap with Willie Nelson, and another one with Marianne Faithfull, and have confused feelings about them. Namely, I have no idea who the youngsters are, and no inclination to find out who they are, or why anybody would think they may become as iconic as Willie Nelson and Marianne Faithfull (who are cooler than you are, so don't even try, punk).
It's not that they are doing ads, since after all Bill Hicks gave Willie dispensation. He also said "By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself."
I know somebody is going to tell me the youngster's names, but I don't really care. They are there to look good, the music is dead last. Also is it a coincidence the songwriters (Hank Williams and Pops Staples) for the tunes are dead?

I agree with cdoug. How did Ryan Adams become the darling of the media when there are so many alt-country artists making much more interesting and enjoyable music?
Hey, what you know? Both Willie and wassisname are on Letterman tonight? Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams (oh man, I really like Summer of 69) Who know'd a Canadian boy would make so good.
Why and when did I turn into a cranky old man? Kidz these days and all that. I guess I'll just have to throw my best fruits and meats at the teevee tonight. (that's a buffy shoutout! for those who didn't see the last ep.)
ha, ha...chubby, its "ryan" adams..."bryan" is Summer of 69, and the dreadful robin hood song
Surely you guys didn't miss the Ryan/Bryan affair discussed here? http://blogcritics.org/archives/2002/10/16/195651.php#20021016195651
you aren't fit to carry Ryan's jockstrap.
Ryan Adams had the great good fortune to shoot a video in NYC days before 9/11, and then the sense to publicize that fact in the video after it was released. No slam on him, I am sure it wasn't planned that way, I wouldn't even call it exploitative, but it sure didn't hurt him any.

The guy with the painstakingly tussled hair is Ryan Adams formerly of Golden Smog and Whiskeytown. While similiar in style to Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar...this smug little prick is a world-class a-hole...as can be seen by him smirking through the GAP ad. So you can get an idea of the type of guy he is. He played an entire show in London with his back to the crowd, and lighting at a minimum. While I like his music, I think he's overrated, particularly when compared to other "alt-country" stars.
