"Wonder Boys" soundtrack

The soundtrack to the movie "Wonder Boys" strikes me as a recording that could probably stand on its own, but gains a deeper resonance after seeing the movie. In that movie, a middle-age English professor tries to figure out the mess of his life. The soundtrack underscores his muted effort with songs by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Lennon, and Van Morrison. Dylan contributes four songs to the CD, including the priceless "Things Have Changed" which won the Oscar for Best Song. Van Morrison's "Philosopher's Stone" is a beautiful tune as is Little Willie John's stirring ballad "Need Your Love So Bad." A must-have for fans of Mr. Zimmerman and fans of the movie

The overlooked Buffalo Springfield classic "A Child's Claim To Fame" was a surprise to see on this soundtrack. When I get around to renting this video, it'll be because of the soundtrack...

And even though probably Eric is the only person who'll read the comment on this old post, I must mention "The Royal Tenenbaums" as another very good movie that's given a serious boost from its outstanding soundtrack.

HD, since the comments show up on the front page, all the world can see your edifying pith. There have been many many films that have benefited from an excellent soundtrack - a tiny sampling: Homer, Midnight Cowboy, American Graffiti, The Big Chill, Saturday Night Fever, Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire, Lost Boys, all the '80s Hughes movies, Singles, Pulp Fiction, Train Spotting, etc. etc.

Singles is one of the first albums I ever purchased and I agree with you Eric that it is one of the best. I am going to have to check out the rest.

As far as Wonder boys goes, I never truly appreciated John Lennon - Watching the Wheels until I heard it in the promos for that movie.
