Black Heart Procession — Amore del Tropico

Second, on Amore, the band turns to keyboards to deliver the melodies of some of the album's best tracks — a trait that adds more overall depth to their work. Check out the keys on arguably the album's best track, Sympathy Crime, which curiously recall at the same time Welcome to the Machine and traditional Chinese folk music. In spite of the keys vaguely evoking such a bleak track from Pink Floyd's early days, the song as a whole proves to be a remarkably vibrant and dense song thanks in great part to the captivating backup vocals and the diverse instrumentation — especially the grand piano and the upbeat percussion. Other noteworthy tracks that feature similarly haunting background synthesizers are The Visitor and The Invitation.
There are a number of other absolutely superb tracks on this album. One of those, the BHP's rocking first single, Did You Wonder, the only guitar-driven track on the album, can be downloaded here. A Cry for Love is also singularly intriguing with its fresh arrangement including trumpets, cello, violin, and the compelling chorus of supporting female singers' exquisite staccato chants of "This ... Crime ... Of ... Love," and similar love-gone-wrong slogans.
When the album comes to a close and the needle creeps off the last track, listeners are left with a fully satisfactory auditory experience. Because of his involvement in both the frustratingly underappreciated Three Mile Pilot (a link to Epitonic's description of the band with some general info/praise and an MP3 of a great single, On a Ship to Bangladesh) and the Black Heart Procession, Pall Jenkins proves to be one of the most innovative and creative musicians of today. A final note for LP collectors: The double LP contains three sides of music and one side of etched art.
