The Life of the Rock Star's Mom

According to this story from the BBC, singer Bjork's Mom is on the 11th day of a Hunger Strike in protest of a new smelter and power plant scheduled to be built in Iceland. The article also states that the factory is due to be built in an area of high unemployment and will generate about 3000 jobs.

I don't know the politics of Iceland or the validity of the arguments for either side of the issue. But does it bother anyone else that Bjork's Mom is purposefully starving herself to keep people, probably already starving, from feeding themselves and their families?
