For his 50th birthday on October 6th, John Otway wanted a charting UK single. After 18 months of planning, his fans got "Bunsen Burner" to no. 9. Their secret? The internet and a real community (plus a ballot from the Electoral Reform Society). That, and a declining threshold for a charting single.

The Globe and Mail (Toronto's National Newspaper) featured the story in today's print edition, but it isn't online. But you can read about it at the BBC.
