Nicolas Cage auctions collection of 400 rare comic books for more than $1.6 million:

The actor's collection, which included a 1938 comic with the first appearance of Superman, sold at auction Thursday at Dallas Comicon, a collectors' convention.

The man of steel's debut, Action Comics No. 1, sold to an unidentified buyer for $86,250. Detective No. 38, a 1940 comic featuring the first appearance of Batman's sidekick, Robin, sold for $132,250.

The auction was jointly conducted by Dallas-based Heritage Comics Auctions and The Mint of Kansas City, Mo.

"This was a real treasure trove of high-quality material from the Golden Age of comics," said John Petty, director of Heritage Comics Auction.

Cage had already read them.
