Dude Done Gone

Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun-Times reports:

Where in the world is Jason Mewes? A spokesman for a former co-star of the quirky actor told this column on behalf of his client Wednesday that ''we are naturally very worried about Jason and only hope he is alive and has found the help and treatment he needs.''

Mewes, best known for being the ''Jay'' half of ''Jay and Silent Bob'' in his pal Kevin Smith's movies, is still a fugitive from justice and has not been spotted in nearly 10 months. Close friends suspect Mewes is either dead or hiding overseas--in a country without a U.S. extradition treaty agreement.

Still outstanding is a $50,000 bench warrant from the Monmouth County, N.J., Superior Court--issued after Mewes failed to show up for meetings with his probation officer late last year. In addition, the actor also missed a scheduled parole-violation hearing, tied to his pleading guilty to possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle. Mewes was sentenced to two years probation for that case in April 2000.

I have to admit that when it comes to news related to anyone attached to View Askew, I'm skeptical. You also have to factor in the bullshit quotient when it comes to celebrity gossip columnists as well. Their information is usually half-assed and second-hand.

In fact, MalcolmLoad over at the Askew Message Board has this to say:

I can tell you that he hasn't been missing for 10 months......

I saw him about 4 months ago.

And I know he called the office recently.

I don't know where that reporter got his facts from.

Take it as you will.

Whoa!

Besides the weird story itself, I was taken aback by the fact that you frequent the View Askew message boards!

Inconceivably, Paul, you are now even higher in my esteem. The surprises keep on coming...

If the police really want to nail Mewes they can do it here:

Thursday, October 17

Noon--Naming of the Homecoming Court

1 p.m.--Office Decoration Judging

5 p.m. - 7 p.m.--Student Government Association Cookout

7 p.m.--Thursday Night Thunder at the Cam Henderson Center

9 p.m.--Student Activities Programming Board and Jason Mewes host a Talent Show. Jason Mewes is perhaps best known for his role of Jay in the cult favorite movies: Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Drawing Files, and many more. On the hottest young stars will be coming to Marshall to talk about his career, meet the students, and host the 2002 Talent Show. Mewes' performance at Marshall is $1 with a student ID and $5 without. Tickets are available in advance in the Memorial Student Center, Room 2w38.

From the Newsaskew site.

Maybe they are doing a remake of "Hear My Song"

wow, I love Jason Mewes and didnt know they were searching for him. Especially since he has several post production films. I wouldnt be surprised if the reporter's facts were false. Jason Mewes has and always will be a great actor and he's doing great where his addictions were concerned.
