Regarding the new Superman movie in the works. this legacy needs to be done with class and RESPECT. To really do it justice, I feel casting an actor who might not be known as well, yet would fit the part well would be a great transition for the audience. Regarding "Ten Best Rock Bands Ever". I understand that the article has a qualifier stating "this is one person's opinion" - and accept that (and assume that this person is not a rock musician and may not realize the significant of certain bands.

That being said - The Stooges are one of the most influencial bands of the sixties (ever wonder where punk music comes from?)

The Beach Boys had as strong of sales as the Stones and for American music - probably were more influencial.

And last but not least - Kraftwerk are undoubtly one of the most significant bands of the past 30 years. Yeah, sure they are not actually rock (but neither are the Wailers or Sly Stone). It is undeniable that modern dance music (techno and hip hop) and a certain portion of Industrial music would not exist (at least not in the form it does today) without Kraftwerk.

I guess my main grip about these kind of surveys is when the critic does not do his research and/or come to an understanding of where contempory rock music is at and how it reached it's current state.

I don't disagree at all about Stooges or Kraftwerk and the Beach Boys are on the honorable mention list simply because I think they were more important in the studio than as a "band."

All Quiet on the Western Front is a book that for a Wednesday, March 17, 2004 graded assignment was required to be read for a Western Civilization class at Sauk Valley Community College. The book had some graphic description of rape and mutilation of bodies, and the book had a very definite anti war stance. Overall, the work was historically condemned by the German Government for being unpatriotic.

I believe that books that are historically accurate and less offensive should be read in history classes instead of fictional works that degrade a race of people and promote a special type of political stance. What I, Mathew Enoch Mount, am asking is that each person that visits my web sight sends at least one letter of protest about such assignments to a dean, Patrick Kennedy, of the instructor, Kathleen Kennedy, which made the assignment to read All Quiet on the Western Front. Overall, if each person visiting my web sight writes one letter of protest, then the world will be a better place for social and cultural diversity.

MGM SUED OVER BARBERSHOP / BEAUTY SHOP
Entertainment and business attorney Paul N. Philips, counsel to screenwriter Thomas Jay Winston Johnson, announced today the filing of a lawsuit against Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and others related to what he describes as the outrageous theft of his client?s intellectual property. That property, Philips says, was converted into MGM?s ?Barbershop? and movies that have followed it ? ?Barbershop 2? and soon-to-be-released ?Beauty Shop.? The lawsuit was filed today in the US District Court, Central District of California (#CV 052031) and seeks unspecified damages from MGM, Ice Cube?s Cube Vision Productions, and others associated with the ?Barbershop? film.

Plaintiff Johnson, a Colorado resident, submitted his script, entitled ?The Barber Shop,? for consideration in late 1999, and was advised simply that his work was not what producers wanted to pursue at the time. Unbeknownst to Johnson, however, ?Barbershop? was well into pre-production the following year, and Johnson was not attached to it. The film was released in late 2002.

According to Philips, ?Mr. Johnson found out about the making of MGM?s project by chance while at the movie theater to see another film.? According to Philips, Johnson was stunned when he saw the trailer for ?Barbershop? in the summer of 2002 and realized that his original project had been made without him.

Since its 2002 release, Barbershop has grossed nearly $100M, and Johnson and his counsel estimate that the Barbershop franchise, including its sequel and ?Beauty Shop,? will gross MGM nearly $300M by the end of this year.

?We discussed the matter informally with MGM for months,? Philips reports. ?The end result, however, was that MGM was not willing to satisfy my client, and we were forced to file the lawsuit.? Now, the dispute appears to have reached the point of no return, and the litigation should be in full swing in the immediate future.

According to Philips, who represents a number of entertainers and professional athletes, the goals of the litigation are to get Johnson compensated for what he believes are profits belonging to him, to get him recognition for the artistic endeavor that he says became MGM?s ?Barbershop,? and to win a victory for other members of the artistic community, who Philips comments are subjected to consistent idea piracy by Hollywood studios.

The trial date for Johnson?s case may not be set for many months.

Twenty-five years after Lennon's death I write the following. It is a prose-poem, a bit of a recap of Lennon's life before 1980, my life and that of the Baha'i community before 1980. I try to integrate Lennon into some of the wider vistas of my own life.

LITTLE UNDERSTOOD EVEN NOW

In the years from 1968 to 1980 Yoko Ono and John Lennon met, married and had their relationship come to a tragic and swift end. Lennon was shot in 1980. Events in the Baha'i community moved with a tragic swiftness through a series of 'disasters and calamities'1 and, in my own life the years 1968 and 1980 saw incapacitating illness affect my private life.
