Star Trek: The Next Conflagration

Captain George W. Bush sat in his Command Chair, flush from his recent victory over Khan and his band of pirates. Yet he was uncomfortable, and it wasn't from the data pad he had inadvertently sat on.

"What's the deal with these Rommalans?"

Powell looked up from his viewing station, the blue light flickering across his face, "The Romulans are a belligerent race, hostile to the Federation and its allies."

Bush, striking a pensive look, slowly scratched his chin, "Any relation to those Klingon bastards?"

Powell straightend himself, "The two have worked together in the past, yet it would be a stretch to call their relationship an alliance. They work together when it serves their common interest, but the Romulans consider Klingons to be inferior."

Bush turned his eyes towards Rumsfeld who, despite working deep within the bowels of the ship, always managed to be on the bridge. "What's your take, Rummy?"

"Are the Romulans a threat? Sure. Will they attack the Federation? Probably. Can we eliminate the threat they pose? Of course. Can we defeat the Klingons? Might as well."

"That would be inadvisable," interjected Powell, "We have enjoyed an uneasy peace with the Klingons, and to start a war against the Romulans may destabilize the entire quadrant."

"Appeaser! You traitorous appeaser!" All three turned to see an anonymous red-shirted crewman rush onto the bridge. He furiously pointed at Powell and launched a broadside of obscenities at the Secretary.

Bush touched a button on his command chair, "Security to the bridge." He focused his attention on Powell as two burly security guards emerged and drug the frothing crewman off the bridge. "It was the Klingons who boarded the Enterprise, forcing me to destroy it. Should we trust them?"

"Trust is not an issue, Captain. They are useful to us in any conflict with the Romulans and may eventually become our allies in the future."

"You inhuman bastard!" Rummy walked a bit across the bridge, "Those Klingon bastards killed his son! They've worked to undermine and destroy the Federation for years!"

"Really, Secretary. You must learn to govern your passions. This is interstellar diplomacy, not the gunfight at the O.K. Corral."

"All right, gentlemen," Bush deftly intervened before Rummy could lunge at Powell, and with a dismissive wave of his hand asked, "Can we defeat these Rommalans, with or without the Klingons? Rummy?"

"Can we defeat the Romulans? Sure. Do we need the Klingons? I don't think so. "

Bush nodded, "Do you think we need to consult the Klingons or any other worlds before going after the Rommalans?"

"Dammit George, quit waffling! Make a decision! Be decisive!" The three turned to see yet another red shirt storm the bridge, this one on his knees and on the verge of tears.
