Happy Birthday, Lubbock Boy!

Today is the birthday of Charles Hardin Holly, known as Buddy to his friends.  Here is the beginning of the Texas guitar slinger tradition that begat such luminaries as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Billy Gibbons and about 50,000,000 other cats from this great Republic (some of whom I am proud to call friends), and not a few from elsewhere in our land.

All stand, and salute the town of Lubbock sometime today.

For the rockers, this will be sometime around 2 or 3 PM, after kicking the groopies out and knocking back a bloody mary or a beer.  We salute you, too, for keeping the music alive.

I was fortunate enough to see Buddy Holly on his 1958 tour of England. I was only 11 and don't remember anything about it. My mother got me a free ticket, because she was an usherette at the Walthamstow Granada where he played. I also saw The Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, The Who, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, and quite a few others!

Thanks for the reminder Scott - love Buddy like almost no other. He had it all, and while he was an amazing songwriter - second only to Check Berry among rockers of the '50s - I love his "Brown-eyed Handsome Man" perhaps best of all.

That's an amazing track record Peter!
