10:10 pm Pink wins, hooks a piggy back on the largest guy in the Western hemisphere, and then delcares "I'm too drunk for this" during her acceptance speech. A perfect 100 out of 100 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale, PLUS extra credit. Well done, Red Dragon.

10:25 pm Ok, we're coming to the tail end of the 9/11 tribute. Nicely done, even if it was all started by J Lo, but MTV found a nice, respectful mood.

10:26 pm "Coming up next, Nelly!" Bye bye mood.

10:31 pm Triumph the Insult Comic Dog with Moby. This should be good.

10:32 pm Well, that sucked. Who green-lit the "faggot" jokes? Nice one MTV.

10:33 pm Moby telepathically asks MTV to save him from utter humiliation; camera quickly cut to Ms. Baggy Clothes herself, Christina.

10:34 pm She might as well have worn a sign that said "Psst, consumers, forget that teen pop is dead and check out MY RACK!"

10:36pm Haha, Eminem won. They have to meet. This should be GREAT.

10:37 pm Well that sucked. Eminem's been hitting anger management classes. No confrontation at all. Damnit.

10:40 pm Who knew Aston Kutcher was moonlighting as the lead singer for the Hives?

10:42 pm The screen behind them plays the message---"The Hives are Law. You are Crime." Think about that. Really. Done? OK, moving on...

10:41 pm "Coming up, Justin Timberlake's first solo performance....ever!" Everyone south of the Mason/Dixon line yawns.

10:50 pm Justin apparantly borrowed Admiral Jackon's old clothes before Mikey stormed Instanbul.

10:52 pm Justin can really dance, but I liked the moves better back in "The Way You Make Me Feel." Nice try though, Justin.

10:53 pm Off camera, Britney flips off some of the Mexican waitstaff. Well, I think.

10:54 Ok, so Justin brings in two rappers, Eclipse, who's entire album consists of autobiographical stories of them being drugs dealers. One wears a shirt that says "I'm Your Pusher." Lovely. Personally, I want the other guy's shirt: "Patty Cake Man."

11:05 pm After the 85th commercial break, MTV runs off the winners of roughly 34 awards that they didn't actually have time to show during the telecast.

11:10 pm HOLY SH%T GUNS N ROSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11:11 pm Wait a sec, who in sam hell are these guys? As my GF said in an instant message, "Why is slash wearing a mask?" Then I realize it's the "new" Guns n Roses. Brand new except for Axl and Dizzy Reed. But hell, they're playing "Welcome to the Jungle." The crowd is ballistic.

11:12 pm Oooh, how cute, Axl went and got himself corn rows apparently. And about 200 years of age. He ages like a dog. Dear Lord that's sad.

"I laughed, I cried, it moved me Bob." - Larry the Cucumber, Veggie Tales.

#2 — August 30, 2002 @ 19:05PM — Jim Treacher [URL]

Mother doesn't allow me to go to parties on Thursday night. Or any other night.

#3 — August 31, 2002 @ 08:06AM — Raspil [URL]

I also paid attention to the VMA's and posted my take -- out of the two hours I caught, Pink's drunken confession was the only high point for me. You were a lot more detailed than I would ever care to be. Way to go.

#4 — September 1, 2002 @ 14:46PM — Dicky Trickle

YOur commentary sucked harder than Justin Timberlakes fetid performance. And stop baggin' on Christina -- her rack is one for the ages

#5 — September 2, 2002 @ 01:35AM — Djk

Pretty funny review. I was hoping there would be a big three way brawl between Moby, Christina and Eminem, but that didn't happen. That's about the only thing that could have made the show worth watching. But you watched it for me, so I don't have to. Thanks!

#6 — September 2, 2002 @ 05:20AM — Ritch

Nice commentary---sounded like me and the boys except for the fixation on Shakira and Christina's rack: we were too speechless. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who thought that the Guns N' Roses appearance, cool as it seemed at first, lost steam when Axel lost his energy and couldn't keep going at his initial pace.

Hey what are you going to do for the Oscars?

#7 — September 2, 2002 @ 06:50AM — Ken

You have to give credit to some of the performers for their attempts at music celebrity impersonations. The Hives lead singer as early Mick, P.Diddy's stirring tribute to Hammer, and Justin Timberlake's white boy version of vintage Michael Jackson.

#8 — September 2, 2002 @ 12:19PM — ryan [URL]

yes ken, just showing how few original ideas are really left. it was sort of a hig-gloss "star search" for a lot of the night.

the oscars??? hmmm....

#9 — September 2, 2002 @ 22:19PM — Marcy

Just a few things you forgot to address... Christina talking like she was straight from the hood even though we know she is a girl from the suburbs...
Eminem looking like an arse trying to start something w/ Moby...
Justin from American Idol jumping in the air to greet Randy with pants so tight you could see a little too much...
The best part of the night was M.J. accepting a non-existent award!! I enjoyed your insight...

#10 — September 3, 2002 @ 00:19AM — Shannon [URL]

Ryan: Oscar Night, my house...you heard it here first, y'all. Oscar party at bitter-girl's casa! Bostonites beware...

#11 — September 3, 2002 @ 02:33AM — Lex

That was incredible ... yes, this shows an overabundance of free time ... but nevertheless, incredible.

#12 — September 3, 2002 @ 08:05AM — Courtney

Funny review. I actually felt sorry for Axl, he looked awful and sounded even worst. I miss Slash, too. Christina was obviously vying for the "neathage" of the Millenium award, which of course Micheal Jackson accepted as well. Whenever in doubt, grab a shiny object and make a speech. CLASSIC. Britney looked awful as well. Kill many cows lately Brit? The only high point of the whole show was the White Stripes. Oh, how I love that Jack White. *swoon*

#13 — September 3, 2002 @ 08:08AM — Tatalalicious

Funny. Now I dont' have to watch. I love Christina btw. she was yum in that outfit.

#14 — September 3, 2002 @ 11:39AM — c.b.l.

what no busts on eminem? is everyone afraid of this guy? he looks like a little boy in the face, he sounds like he has nasal congestion, and women actually find this guy attractive. can i ask why? he has no cuts, obviously doesn't workout. he sucks!!!!!

#15 — September 3, 2002 @ 13:16PM — ryan [URL]

you know, a few people have asked me about this. to be honest, after nothing really happened between eminem and christina, i went to the bathroom, and missed the whole thing.

i didn't insert anything later because

1) it would ruin the whole project (spontaneous reaction to what i directly experienced)

2) enough media coverage took care of eminem anyways..

#16 — September 4, 2002 @ 09:30AM — j.m.d.

Acc. to NY Post Axl had plastic surgery a la Mickey Rourke. How bad was it?

#17 — September 4, 2002 @ 11:07AM — perv

britney, yea! christina, hellz yea! mary-kate and ashley...dear lord...i am going to hell...

#18 — September 4, 2002 @ 11:15AM — marc

Outstanding homage to Bill Simmons! The only thing missing was a reference to throwing up in your mouth and setting yourself on fire, other than that a reasonably fine facsimile of a SG Page Two column.

#19 — September 4, 2002 @ 12:02PM — ryan [URL]

homage is fine---direct blatant copying i kept to a minimum!

#20 — September 4, 2002 @ 12:21PM — Dana

Was it just me or did Axl's face look . . . wierd? I couldn't quite figure it out, as I was dog tired and only staying awake for GnR (!!!faded to ???) but something was wrong. Was it his teeth? And I'm of the unshakable opinion that those nifty little braids were attached to the bandanna, not Axl's head. Did you notice that when he did the post-show interview in the wings, his "hair" was crooked?

GnR sounded like a killer Guns n Roses cover band with a really crappy lead singer who just couldn't hit Axl's high notes. I was really let down, particularly as I was about as excited as Jimmy Fallon when I heard the first few notes.

#21 — September 4, 2002 @ 16:45PM — bhurn

I can't believe that you so blatantly plagerized Bill Simmons. At least you tipped your hat, but you stole his jokes and everything. Good job, no talent. Way to be almost as unoriginal as the Video Awards, themselves. Where do you rank on the Unintentional Loser Scale?

#22 — September 4, 2002 @ 18:13PM — ryan [URL]

my first hate mail! i've officially arrived.

#23 — September 4, 2002 @ 19:11PM — Mork

Well, I have to say that at first I got wildly excited upon seeing that Guns n Roses were performing but the disappointment set in once I saw that apparently Axl was performing with a member of the KKK (Buckethead) and had aged terribly. Mostly it was the hair and terrible sound that threw me off. But what really killed was that at the end everyone was all "It rocked!" but no, it didn't. MTV sucks. Good commentary though you bastard.

#24 — September 4, 2002 @ 19:43PM — mm

I just discovered your stream of consciousness postings...I laughed so hard I think I peed.

Much better than actually watching the program.

Hail, Ryan.

#25 — September 5, 2002 @ 19:40PM — Stacy [URL]

This was the funniest thing I've read in forever. I'm sitting in libary at the college and could not stop cracking up. Everone around me kept turning around and giving me the "this is a libary" look. Awesome review!!

#26 — September 5, 2002 @ 20:53PM — ryan [URL]

glad to do my part in preventing an education!

#27 — September 6, 2002 @ 14:53PM — Futuregirl [URL]

i missed the MTV music awards, because i was camping in a forest - with no communication technology, except expressing my opinion to trees. if you shout picks for MTV awards in a forest, and no one hears, does it count? been trying to catch up on what went down - and your report beats all other BS accounts. best thing i've been amused by since Mystery Science Theater.

#28 — September 23, 2002 @ 11:07AM — Da Rude

For those of you who thought Justin Timberlake's perforance sucked at the VMAs then you must have shitty taste in music and appreciation for natural talent. Jacko was good but this kid has mad skills. You'll see when his new album hits as he wipes his ass with $100 bills. Jealousy is bitch. For those who can dance and grew up in the Jacko era then you know what this kid is all about. For those of you who didn't you are missing out.

#29 — October 8, 2002 @ 04:35AM — Jason

hey man. I know I'm late to post but I just found this site while going on a Guns search.
I thought Axl *sometimes* hit a note or two but seeing as there are many motes in a song, it was kind of sad when I saw that he couldn't catch his breath while trying to sing Welcome to the Jungle.

Great commentary though. I've got you bookmarked so I can read the next awards shows!

Keep it up!

And damnit someone bring back SLASH!

#30 — November 26, 2002 @ 04:02AM — Kaylene

#31 — November 30, 2002 @ 20:47PM — lindsay kate

justin timberlakes performance was fairly good for hes 1st tyme solo.

#32 — March 10, 2003 @ 13:10PM — Isa

Thant was great, thank you! Spears and Timberlake need to get fixed so they don't have any more little nasty dominatrix voices-that-will-never-pass-puberty kids runnin' around. Where's 50 cent? If Eminem won't start something, 50 should start something with Ja Rule. And then Ashanti can get all mad too and jump at 50 and J.Lo (hottest woman alive but seriously, she kills foxes for her freaking fake eyelashes, there's a woman who's whole purpose in life is to make J.Lo's eyebrows look cool), but back to the point, then Shakira would feel the need to stop them and they'd all fall in a vat of K-Y and I'll just leave it there. But thanks, I didn't have to watch the thing!!!!

#33 — August 30, 2003 @ 19:16PM — britney

IT IS JUST AS GOOD AS WATCHING IT ON THE T.V EXCEPT YOU DONT GET TO HEAR THE MUSIC.

#34 — April 12, 2004 @ 00:44AM — Tracy [URL]

You should thank Google for sending new readers your way, Eric.

I bow in the direction of Silicon Valley daily - the search engines rule!

#41 — September 3, 2006 @ 08:56AM — mandrake

Who was the black guy at the end of the show who grabbed the mic to say some words when JLo announced the last award?

#42 — December 7, 2006 @ 11:22AM — PEARLCOPPER [URL]

he'ya
I'd wonder why you're so critical on this page... but are oyu going to watch full music video of this beautifull dol or that one... 'cause I know you're all running with the idea that you can do that as well but you might get burn out way before you hit the top of a mountain.
Other thing is... I'm recording my Classic Rock album 'COMING HOME' thought you might want to know about it. Are you going to buy a copy of my album... just curious, I know there is something more beside all that promotion bullshit.

#43 — December 7, 2006 @ 11:24AM — PEARLCOPPER [URL]

by the way, Avril is one of my favour girls... if she lets me say that.
