I have come to the conclusion that this disease is, primarily, a psychiatric disease. Certainly there are metabolic and endocrine conditions that can lead to obesity. However, for the vast majority of patients afflicted with this disease, it is clearly a well-defined psychological mind set that leads to the self-perpetuating set of behaviors manifests themselves in the physical state of obesity.
