Gadget fans rejoice as Apple sets the highly anticipated iPad 3 launch event for March 7th. Held in San Francisco, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, the launch is expected to be the most exciting event of the season for the industry. Moreover, the company issued media invitations that promise to offer “something you really have to see. And touch.” accompanied by an image of an iPad touch screen.

This new screen has been the talk of countless tech blogs, especially since everyone had expected the iPad 2 to be featured with the the famous Retina Display that Apple uses for the iPhone. Unfortunately, iPad 2 did not get the Retina Display, which certainly rose the stakes for the third installment of the iPad series. Back in August 2011, details about the new screen leaked through supplier sources. According to them, the iPad 3 will have four times the number of pixels and twice the linear resolution of the previous models. The Apple news and rumors website, MacRumors, confirmed earlier this month that the iPad 3 will have a 2048-by-1536 pixel resolution. Sources suggest that the displays are being manufactured by Sharp, a company in which Apple is investing heavily. The Japanese electronics manufacturer is apparently working on further developing LCD technology, which is something that Apple could definitely benefit from.

The date if the iPad 3 release is expected to be in mid March for the United States and sometime in April for Western Europe and Japan. With the rapidly expanding gadget market, financial analysts expect the iPad 3 to sell an impressive 10 million units within 3 months of its release. Apple undeniably dominated the sales in the tablet PC niche, with estimates holding that the iPad reached an 80% market share in 2011.

As mentioned on fashQ, with the iPad 3 release date looming, pictures of what seems to be the new iPad leaked on the internet and have been featured on a Chinese website. The Hong Kong-based tabloid, Apple Daily, published rumors according to which the iPad 3 will feature a whooping 8 mega-pixel camera. The iPad is expected to have an ARM-based dual core processor, which is likely manufactured by Samsung, a long-time partner of Apple’s. Samsung also manufactured the Apple A5, an impressive piece of technology that was included in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The A5 contained a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU as well as a dual core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU. It is believed that the new A6 is will surpass the A5 in almost every respect.
