App Review: eBay Updated for iPad

2 tickets for a 2002 Guns and Roses concert? $9.99. Hearing Axel Rose belt out GNR’s greatest hits including “November Rain”? Priceless. Deals such as this one are found on eBay every day.  And with the iPad making web browsing even more convenient (in bed, on the train, on the couch) shoppers are finding more ways to casually search for items to fill a collection, take advantage of deals, and find the most elusive gifts.

The original eBay iPad app served me well, though the update released on March 16, recently made some key improvements based on user feedback. One of my favorite new features is the inclusion of saved searches. The app usually had no trouble pulling up recent searches, but with saved searches, I can recall all of the conditions that I set on a search, and this feature is transferrable to the web version, so you’ll always have access to your saved searches.

Category browsing is also new, and although I don’t particularly use this feature, I can see how shoppers who don’t have a specific idea of what they want or where to begin would benefit from this new ability. The iPad still provides a beautiful viewing experience when searching for items, as the item’s image is front and center when looking at search results. This applies to the “My eBay” screen which also received some minor improvements in the update.

Watchlist management is improved as you can now delete multiple items with ease.  Based on App Store reviews, the updated eBay app has been well received by many users.  However, notable complaints remain on how the app does not allow for selling. This would be a nice addition, though I would rather input detailed item descriptions using a standard keyboard, so browsing and buying are still my main priorities when using eBay on the iPad.

eBay for iPad is available for free in the Apple iTunes App Store.
