If you’re a LaToya London fan, the wait is almost over. The stunning songbird is set to bow on September 20th, with a 14-track disc called Love & Life.
After her stint on American Idol (Season 3), LaToya signed with Peak Records, home of Regina Belle and an enviable roster of jazz and soul greats. Her debut disc was produced by Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey), Barry J. Eastmond (Aretha Franklin and Anita Baker) and David Foster (Barbra Streisand and Quincy Jones), among others.
And LaToya even co-wrote several of the tunes, including the disc’s first single, “Appreciate” (recorded with Black Thought (The Roots)). “Appreciate” was serviced to mainstream Urban radio this week.
Ramping up before her bow, LaToya has already started on the show circuit. Besides hosting the Bo Bice home team in Birmingham, Alabama on finale night of American Idol season four, on May 26th, LaToya filled the Montmartre Lounge in Hollywood with her rich, soulful vocals.
The occasion was Stylemakers 2005, hosted by Life & Style magazine. Life & Style states its goal is “to celebrate celebrities, showcase their influence on popular culture, and help readers incorporate the latest celebrity trends into their own lives.”
Well, that’s quite an ambitious venture, but I’d say they certainly went to the right place when they tapped into the American Idol celebrity stream.
At Stylemakers, LaToya performed songs off Love & Life for a crowd that included Brittany Murphy, Tori Spelling, Carmen Electra, Cheryl Tiegs, and Desperate Housewives’ Shawn Pyfrom.
On June 10th, LaToya performed two tracks from Love & Life on Good Day Atlanta. On Saturday, June 11th, she performed again on Soultrain, where she sang “Appreciate” and “Every Part of Me.” The vid for “Appreciate” will be cut the third week of June.
And if you were really lucky, you got to meet ‘n greet LaToya at last week’s VIBE Fest at the Georgia Dome and Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. (And, while you were waiting in line, you could have gotten a free manicure, pedicure and massage courtesy of V-Style salon and Beauty Zone. Sweet!)
Okay, but what about the music? Check it out for yourself here.
