Amazon’s MP3 Download Site and The Daily Music and Tech News Update

Amazon opens its online MP3 store for beta test

Amazon.com has announced that it has opened its MP3 download store for a "public beta" test. The Amazon MP3 Download Store is said to have music from more than 20,000 independent and major labels with songs by more than 180,000 artists. The store is offering more than 2 million songs without digital rights management. The tracks have a higher resolution than tracks offered by the leader in MP3 downloads, Apple's iTunes. The tracks are being offered for between $0.89-$0.99.

Radiohead to self-release album

Radiohead will be self-releasing their upcoming album on October 10th. The album will be available for download only through the band's official site. The album is titled In Rainbows. For fans interested in a physical copy of In Rainbows, Radiohead will be making avaible a "discbox" which will include a CD, the album on two vinyl pressings, and the liner notes and artwork bound in a hardcover binding. The discbox will be shipped in December and is being offered for GBP £40. The band's website offers the following track list:

Google buys Zingku

Google has announced that it has bought Zingku Inc, the mobile social networking start-up. The service started in 2005 and has been testing its services in the US. The service is designed to make it easy for mobile phone users to send invitations, share photos, and do other things such as conduct polls amongst their friends. Details of the purchase have not been released. No special software is required for the service, things are done via text and picture message or via a browser on the web.
