E! News is reporting that American Idol season eight alum Adam Lambert has been in talks with the popular singing show about joining the panel of judges for season 12. And with none of the current panel line-up (Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson) officially confirmed for season 12, it’s possible that Lambert could wind up replacing one the judges. The most likely candidate to leave is Lopez; it’s been rumored since the end of season 11 that she was planning to depart from the show.

AMERICAN IDOL: Adam Lambert performs on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, May 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.If this is legit, I think it’s a great move on the show’s part. The show really could use a music artist on the panel that’s a relevant part of today’s music scene, and someone that actually knows what they’re talking about when it comes to participating on this show.

Lambert made a splash during season eight with his performances of “Mad World,” “Tracks of My Tears,” and “Whole Lotta Love.” His standout performances prompted former Idol judge Paula Abdul to exclaim during one episode, “It’s like watching the Olympics, and you’re our Michael Phelps.” His latest album, Trespassing, debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts, and most recently, he’s been overseas performing with Queen as the band’s front man.

During season nine, Lambert did an excellent job mentoring the Top 9. He was forthcoming with his feedback, and clearly articulated to the contestants about specific things that he felt they were good at and the things that they needed to improve on for their performance. And right now, those are the type of straightforward critiques missing from the judges throughout the past couple of seasons.

Every season we hear about how the judges are planning to step their game up, but it’s yet to happen. If Idol is really looking to reboot their panel with one of their own, I think Lambert is an ideal pick. He’s never been one to shy away from his opinion, and something tells me that the show will bank on the singer’s candidness to finally fill the void of Simon Cowell.

Let’s hear it, what do y’all think about the possibilty of Adam Lambert returning to American Idol as a judge next season?

GRAMMY NOMINATED Adam Lambert brought the MAGIC to Idol and put everyone under his Spell..and he will do it again…He has the most Phenomenal Voice and knows the business….He turned Idol Upside Down and it’s never been the same since he was on….They have been searching for Adam Lamberts Electrifying total package of Pure jaw-dropping Talent ever since he graced the stage…and can’t even come Close….At least he will Light up the show with his Aura, and give honest sincere helpful advice too. Adam had a 126 SOLD OUT ~SOLO World Wide Concert tour a year after Idol…had #1 hits, is GRAMMY NOMINATED and just finished touring with Legendary QUEEN to sold out 500.000~80.000~50.000 plus stadiums, singing 26 of Freddie Mercurrys Iconic Songs FLAWLESSLY and putting those in attendence into a Frenzy and awestruck at Adam’s powerful pitch perfect voice..not to mention his Electrifying Stage Presence…where Brian May said..”Adam was so awesome that i would forget to play my guitar watching him!!! This is the lead in QUEEN! QUEEN said that Adam LAmbert brought Joy back to their lives and they FEEL LIKE A BAND AGAIN WITH ADAM….Unbelievable!!
Queen is the ONLY Vocally Iconic Rock Band in history…No other band compared to them Vocally and they said Adam has “THE MOST PHENOMENAL VOICE THEY HAVE EVER HEARD”
There is NO ONE like Adam Lambert….and now they have to ask Adam himself to try and find the same excitiement as he has…it will be so much fun watching this!!
I just want to hear Adam sing to me dayhmmmmm day!!

Adam LAmbert bought the magic to Idol and put EVERYONE under his spell, and he will do it again…He has it all…Talent,Knowledge, Charisma, Honesty, and sincerity…He would be Perfect…but I NEED GLAMNATION #2 NOW..AND A QUEEN TOUR…If he can fit that in then I say YES!

  • I thought Adam did a great job mentoring when he did. I think he could make a good judge. I doubt they would go with three guys though, unless Steven is on the way out?

  • leigh

Who better, than someone who can really sing, and who is a brilliant performer. If not a judge, he should be a full time mentor, with an astronomical salary.

  • Dawn

I would love this and he would do and EXCELLENT job. Knows the business, knows music past and present, give good critique, is talented in his own right, is the now generation and all the while looks handsome doing it. Selfish comment coming… But I want him on tour next year too. Can we just clone him now:-)

  • RoRo

I think this would be a good move – I’d LOVE to see Adam become a judge on the show, even if only for one season! Let’s see what he can do!

  • Pearl

If Lambert does come back to Idol, you can bet your sweet life I’ll start watching the show again!

  • Kathy

Steven Tyler is the reason I watch! If he goes, I’m out.

  • Yes

He would be a great judge. Articulate, charming, smart and mega talented. He will bring credibility to this show that is already losing a lot of viewership. With no talent JLo, Adam would definitely make this show very exciting. I would watch AI again!

Considering Adam Lambert killed idol in Season 8, he’s probably the ONLY one who can bring it back to life now. Starting with choosing the talent in the tryouts.

  • L.B.

it would be the ONLY way to make see America Idol again.
Adam has the best voice and I think he could save that show but I hope he continues to have time for his music.
We NEED good artists, not what passes for good these days but real good voices and he has the best one.
Did I say he has the best one?
He has to do what it’s best for him.
Adam: tell them how it’s done.

But what about his tour? His album promotions? What about the possibility that Queen + Adam Lambert collaboration continues? He has not been formally approached yet, but he has already stated he is willing to help out. If he does accept, this would be great. If he does not accept, that would still be great. In the end, the ball’s in Adam’s corner.
